Talk about rookie mistake. In preparation for teaching I bought a bunch of red pens to mark up my students work. I remember one time when I was working away from home and I didn't have red pens I was so unsure how to grade my papers. It felt incorrect to use anything other than red, so I was frozen until I could purchase an emergency set. I mean that is what red pens are for, highlighting every single mistake. Each and every failure had to be marked in bright red. Right? Wrong!
Now my red pens sit in junk drawers waiting for a new purpose in life. I realized I was following an old outdated method that had no place in the classroom I was trying to build. I didn't want my students identifying the red markings with failure as I had learned to. I wanted them to see bright colorful learning opportunities. I wanted a variety of colors so the markings could never be associated with mistake, wrong, failure. I wanted to say "good job" in pink and purple and green. Now I do.

I soon bought a bunch of colored pens for grading student papers. I fell in love with writing in green (our school colors) and orange and even fun blues. My first set of pens were not the greatest and they disappeared quick. Luckily I found this Bic Gel pen spinner. Talk about love. These pens are of great quality and there are plenty to last, lose, and spread around. I bought two; one for work and one for home. It took great restraint to not buy more. The bonus is that it comes in a spinning carousel that has space in the center for other tools.

There are no limits for your pens. I use them for everyday tasks including keeping track of homework and making myself notes. Using colored pens brings me a small amount joy, which we could all use in our day. So if you are starting your first year, learning new tricks, looking for great pens, or have a pen addiction I highly recommend this pen set with a spinner. As a bonus you can add pencils and rulers to the spinner cup.
